Firefly is Whedon his next major hit television series. She must have left a lasting impression, because this single episode was the catalyst for her being a celebrity. Summer Glau was very good at handling the complex role as River Tam. Summer Glau's character in Tam's film was forced to sit for government exams to help her prepare to play the ideal assassin. Tam's emotional control was removed in direct consequence. Glau was able to display her combat skills as well her acting talent in Firefly. Being learning to be an assassin enabled Glau to make the most of her athletic abilities. Summer Glau's classical training makes her a highly accomplished ballerina. Her broken toe however that caused an end to her dance career. Firefly only lasted one season, but the show garnered a large audience. Whedon became so dedicated to Firefly that he decided to return after a few years. However, Summer Glau continued to be a star in a variety of shows.
